Capelongue

A Modern Provencal Hamlet of Slow Luxury and Timeless Elegance - Nestled high above the hilltop village of Bonnieux in the Luberon, Capelongue is not merely a hotel - it’s a resurrected Provencal village. Built using reclaimed stone and designed by Jaune Architecture under Beaumier's stewardship, this intimate 57-room estate spans five acres of olive groves, lavender fields, and dry-stone walls.

Here, modern minimalism meets regional soul: whitewashed façades, terracotta tiles, linen curtains, local glazed ceramics, and warm, organic materiality define every corner.

A New-Old Village: Architecture & Atmosphere

Capelongue’s architectural narrative unfolds around a communal square - complete with a stone fountain, library, and café. Interiors feel both rooted and refined: each piece of furniture is sourced from local artisans, and every color palette was carefully curated by A.S.L. with Saint Lazare’s vibrant branding touches - think sunlit ochre, soft olive, and accents of Provencal yellow.

Gardens, Pools & Wellness

Set within a tapestry of vineyards, vegetable beds, and aromatic plantings, Capelongue invites you to reconnect with the land. Two striking swimming pools underscore the calm: one nestled in a valley, the other a sleek lap pool carved into local rock, both offering panoramic views at sunset. Wellness reaches a new scale here. The spa - with a Roman-style bath, hammam, cryotherapy room, fitness studio, and three treatment cabins powered by Biologique Recherche products - emerges as a peaceful sanctuary amid olive groves and tamarisk trees.

Farm-to-Table Luxury: La Bastide & La Bergerie

Culinary excellence reigns at Capelongue. Hub is La Bastide, a Michelin-starred restaurant led by Chef Noël Bérard, focusing on menus like “Luberon” and “Garden” tasting options rooted in local terroir. For more informal gatherings, La Bergerie offers wood-fired comfort dishes such as grilled lamb, pissaladière, and truffle-sprinkled pizza, all in a convivial rustic setting. All dining draws on produce from Capelongue’s own organic gardens - olive oil, vegetables, herbs - and local vineyards, creating menus that are honest, seasonal, and deeply Provencal.

Lifestyle, Culture & Local Engagement

Capelongue presents itself not just as a retreat, but a cultural hub. It hosts artist residencies, literary gatherings, and local artisan festivals alongside peaceful yoga sessions, pétanque games, and e-bike excursions across olive groves and lavender fields. The carefully curated library features volumes from Librairie du Palais in Arles, while regionally inspired art - photographs, ceramics, wheat wreaths by artists like Arsène Welkin and Luce Monnier - imbue the space with a local creative pulse.

Capelongue isn’t an escape - it’s a return: to simple pleasures, to rooted elegance, to a slower rhythm of life. It reminds us that luxury can be unassuming, design can be soulful, and travel can be both restful and rich.

This is slow luxury at its most genuine: a Provencal village for aesthetes, gourmands, and mindful explorers.
